ATHOUGH the last steelband, Witco Desperadoes Steel Orchestra appeared in position number 36 and did not take to the stage until after 3 am, thousands of pan lovers including myself, stayed on for Band Number 35, Exodus Steel Orchestra and Pelham Goddard's Arrangement of Sparrow's "The Band Plays On" followed by Witco Desperadoes Steel Orchestra performance of Oba's "Picture On My Wall." The official tally placed Desperadoes at the top of the overall standings, with a score of 450 points, while Exodus Steel Orchestra, claimed the East Region Championship with a total of 440 points.
Second place overall went to BP/Amoco Renegades Steel Orchestra, with a score of 441. Amoco Renegades drew position number 14 and delivered Jit Samaroo arrangement of SuperBlue's "Jump For Joy", and Phase II Pan Groove, having also scored 440 points with "My Time", shared third place overall with Exodus :-)

Early afternoon rains had turned the western end of the Savannah stage into a mudpool. Torrential rains brought the day's proceedings to grinding halt just after the post-noon period when only three steel bands had presented their rendition.
Bands that played in positions one to four experienced difficulty in moving their pans westward after performing.
The first six steel orchestras appearing were forced to retrace their steps along the BarberGreen, rather than leave via the western end of the Grand Stand, Queen's Park Savannah, Port-of-Spain, following their performance, which caused further delays in band changes.
The event started at 11:37 am.
